Internet purchases

When shopping we imagine that the clothes we select to buy will fit flawlessly. Yeah right! That romper suit mentioned in an earlier blog is a good 15cm shy of reaching my ankles but fits my waist perfectly. The top however is a loose fit reaching my wrists without difficulty. One wonders whether they have been specifically paired to fit a chimpanzee. Lesson learned, stop making clothing and shoe purchases. It was cheap and will function as a base layer until getting to the Musto Lighthouse store next week. I need three sets for the race and nothing but merino wool will suffice. It’ll be over-priced but at least the ‘right stuff’ will not let me down in the Southern Ocean. For now I shall just have to wear long socks instead.

The esplanade in Prestatyn

Exercise continues daily, mostly jog-walks and the rowing machine. The weather has changed for the good with my first weeks back on Mud Isle blowing force 6 and gusting to 8 most days and nights. One morning Ian watched as the smoked glass top on the patio table was lifted clean off it’s frame and set down violently into tiny little cubes of sugar-like crystals. Safety glass indeed, Bailey didn’t know and now has her paw wrapped in a gauze bandage, at least it was but now trails behind her as she goes about her doggy life barking at each and every Amazon delivery. A wooden fence panel needed unfolding and repair before Ian set off for Germany to install a prototype system of meshed wireless clay traps.

My alternator and fan belt has apparently been delivered to me according to DHL’s tracking service. This morning I’ve been in touch with the german suppliers and hope the parts will eventually get to me in due course.

An impulsive decision to get Blackmagic Design’s new 4k pocket camera has resulted in a quick response as it arrived today. Lee tucked in a free gift of a usb dual battery charger. What service! Jono remembered I was going to Africa and he and Gail tried valiantly to obtain proof of purchase for my original 4k camera so that I might get rid of the dongle in exchange for a key to be used with Davinci Resolve Studio. As the information had already been archived on their system they were unable to reprint the invoice. A screenshot of their system complete with invoice number with items purchased and my details did not satisfy Blackmagic and has left me with a rather sour taste in my mouth. The new camera comes with a key to unlock the software so we have the result wanted. A big shoutout goes to Broadcast and Production Services as they work as happily as a family complete with an over-friendly dog in a basket (which likes to hold your hand rather too tightly) from their red doored ex fire station on the banks of the Thames. I do like them as coffee is always offered when I go round, something this addict cannot refuse.

That’ll be two Clipper 68s and one Clipper 70

I continue to explore sailing theory and am busy learning about centre of effort, centre of lateral resistance, hydrodynamics. This morning I experimented with the Achimedes’ principle in the bath.
