The week before Crew Allocation

We’re all anxious to know our skippers, mates, crew and assigned yachts and their names. We may learn the race route and start date too. My car has just been repaired and may make the journey down to Gosport. Currently the rear left wheel emits a screeching noise which could be pads, disc or something rubbing. We don’t think it’s a wheel bearing but cannot rule that cause out. Most likely something was bent when the coil springs were changed.

Which will be my Commander?

Bookings for 4 nights at Mel’s have been made and will cover the first three nights in Portsmouth to be in time for the Crew Allocation event in the Guildhall and first race crew meeting on the Saturday. Level 3 training begins for me on the 15th May and it’s not worth going home in-between. It may be that I’ll get to tour the Marlow rope factory and to shop for sailing gear.

Crew Allocation Schedule

09:00-10:30 Registration opens at 09:00.
Please wear your Musto softshell jacket. Not only is it fun to spot fellow crew but we’ll be taking a full crew photo at the end of the day. If you haven’t already been issued your jacket but have completed Level 1 training and registered for your Crew Allocation ticket by 28 April, you can collect yours on the day. If you haven’t had your official headshot photo taken for the website, we will be taking these after you have collected your jacket.
Tea and coffee will be provided on the day and breakfast baps are available to purchase for £3 each. We recommend arriving early to give yourself enough time to settle in. It’s also the perfect time to meet our Race Partners.
10:30-11:30 Briefing from the Clipper Race Team
11:30-12:45 Crew Allocation.

All Race Skippers will be introduced and one of them will read out your name!
13:00-16:45
Your Race Skipper will lead a team workshop where lunch will also be provided. As these are private sessions your Race Crew Supporters attending are invited to join Ruth Charles for their bespoke afternoon event including drinks reception.
17:00
Fingers crossed for the sun to be shining as a full Race Crew photo will be taken.
17:30 Once photos have finished, if you wish, you can continue into a late team social. Crew members and supporters are invited to head to Gunwharf Quays for a drink to celebrate with your newly formed team, details given on the day.
For those of you who are sadly unable to attend on the day and for any friends and family that would like to get involved in the action, we will be live streaming the event via our website. The morning session of Crew Allocation will be streamed live from 09:30 – 12:30 UTC on May 11: www.clipperroundtheworld.com/livestream
The video will be remain available to watch via the website link above and will also be on the Clipper Race YouTube channel shortly after the live stream has concluded.
Crew Allocation is also the time to speak to your Race Skipper about the additional roles required on board and put forward your nominations.
